3 Quick Points from Gary:

Social Media is not a campaign or one night stand its a marathon. It’s living and breathing

Social Media is about listening – Check out search.twitter.com search your company or genre

SEO is evolving and with Google’s integration with social, search is becoming more humanized

Twitter just announced a new Twitter. What does that mean exactly? It mean easier, bigger, faster Twitter. It means a better user experience. And more importantly it means if you are a Fortune 500 company or small business owner social platforms and networks are not going away but evolving into more user friendly platforms to engage customers and build brand equity.

It’s the new word of mouth. You really need to start thinking about a co-managed or fully managed Social Media Marketing strategy.

Check out this video of the New Twitter and here is a more information about Twitter launching a new version of their real time information network.

I recently separated our business Twitter from my personal Twitter account. I didn’t do this because I wanted another Twitter account to add to my Hootsuite platform or another account to manage. I just thought I would be more focused on the content I tweet from @DIAPMedia so that the people I engage with there are more interested in the value of the microsite, SEO, Link Building, Online Reputation Management and internet marketing content that is relevant to what we do.

Also, I think it’s important to have my personal Twitter account @TJLoftus seperated as its own brand just as our other web properties have their own Twitter accounts to be laser focused on their engagement with people that follow or we follow, @ reply, and DM with as we listen on the search.twitter.com streams for people hashtagging about our common ground.

In separating @DIAPMedia and @TJLoftus I realized in just two days I had almost 100 followers already even though admittedly I followed over 100 that I was following at @DIAPMedia those were people I felt could care less about the SEO, microsite, and internet marketing tweets or retweets I would pump out. Also, most haven’t followed back on my new personal account yet or maybe won’t and that’s fine too. I prefer quality over quantity all the time. This is even reflective in my business where I only help clients that do not compete with our existing clientele.

In looking at the new followers in only two days of being live, I noticed a lot of spam and Twitter accounts that either had duplicate profile pictures or no Tweets. I could care less about the 100 plus followers in two days other then maybe 25% of them that were actual people I did want to engage with again. But the point of this is, yes you can go follow everyone on Twitter or at least now 1,000 per day before Twitter cuts you off and then repeat and use Twitter tools like ManageFlitter.com to rinse the accounts that don’t follow you back after a few days and look like a “social media rockstar” but really its all B.S.
