There is an interesting older article over at Search Engine People that used AOL’s leaked data to determine how many clicks each position on the first page of the search engines get.

The interesting part of this is there is a huge difference in being #1 or helping companies with SEO to be #1 or at the top of the search engines vs “First Page” which many SEO firms sell.

This is what they came up with;

Total Searches:9,038,794
Total Clicks: 4,926,623

Click Rank1: 2,075,765
Click Rank2: 586,100 = 3.5x less
Click Rank3: 418,643 = 4.9x less
Click Rank4: 298,532 = 6.9x less
Click Rank5: 242,169 = 8.5x less
Click Rank6: 199,541 = 10.4x less
Click Rank7: 168,080 = 12.3x less
Click Rank8: 148,489 = 14.0x less
Click Rank9: 140,356 = 14.8x less
Click Rank10: 147,551 = 14.1x less

Read more: http://www.searchenginepeople.com/blog/aol-data-reveals-how-top-10-position-affects-ctr.html#ixzz1cgdj01Dq

This is the data with percentages;

Results in:

Total Searches: 9,038,794
Total Clicks: 4,926,623

% of clicks
Click Rank1: 2,075,765 42.13%
Click Rank2: 586,100 11.90%
Click Rank3: 418,643 8.50%
Click Rank4: 298,532 6.06%
Click Rank5: 242,169 4.92%
Click Rank6: 199,541 4.05%
Click Rank7: 168,080 3.41%
Click Rank8: 148,489 3.01%
Click Rank9: 140,356 2.85%
Click Rank10: 147,551 2.99%

1st page: 4,425,226 89.82%
2nd page: 501,397 10.18%

With Google’s recent changes over the last year that seem to have been more changes then in the last five years combined, we are noticing a lot better controllable results with PPC Management in combination with a long term SEO plan.

The days of ranking websites and getting great conversions and results from just being on the “First page” are slowly becoming less and less effective.

I just cancelled Netflix and was asked to fill out this online survey. I noticed in the survey they didn’t ask if I cancelled because of price or because of their new business model moving DVDs to Qwikster.

Also, in their survey they point out many alternatives to using them which I thought was odd. (Hey, thanks for cancelling so are you going to use Hulu Plus for $7.99 a month?) What do you think of the survey?

He is the future of owner of the NY Jets and executes on internet marketing strategies and online branding for big Fortune 500 companies.

So I logged into Facebook today to see automatically made lists of my High School, Close Friends, Family, and the local area where I spend the most of my time. Apparently, Facebook cased the joint at Google Plus with their highly popular Google Circles that allows you to place people in certain groups so you can act one way with one group of people and act another way with co workers for example.

“Case” is an old stock broker phrase I learned back in the days of selling municipal bonds, stocks, and mutual funds. A stockbroker that was advising new broker trainees said look everything that has been done has been done. Look at what the most successful stockbrokers do around you and CASE the joint. “Copy and Steal Everything”

It looks like Facebook is doing just that with this new Facebook Smart Lists feature allowing you to add friends into “smart lists”. This will enable to tell your “close friends” hey there is party at my house. And your “Other Facebook Friends” not doing anything this weekend how about you?
