I can’t tell you how many people and companies are going around “pitching” companies that are clueless trying to say Social Media will increase your sales and get you lead generation. Maybe long term, maybe if you have someone dedicated full time and posts 10 tweets a day, 2 blog posts, and updates your facebook 5 times a day, maybe not even then.
I think a lot of companies are missing the boat. Social Media is more about creating a relationship with current customers, listening to what people are saying about your company and engaging in the conversation. Over time will this bring in new business or online word of mouth sure. But should you go and spend over $10,000 I keep hearing CareerBuilder and Monster are charging companies to set up their Facebook?? NO, run the other way or look it up on Google. It’s free, quick and easy. If you are posting jobs on these job boards they should be thankful you are still a client and do it as an extra value. Then again, these are what some companies have told me they were being “pitched” so please correct me if I’m wrong.
To sum up this post I believe there is a great video on WebProNews.com from Scott Monty, Head of Social Media for Ford Motor Company. I think he sums it up best I in my opinion this could be the reason why their stock is up to $7.62 (as of Oct. 25th) from a $2.00 low less then a year ago while all the other big boys filed bankruptcy.
